I was nervous putting my bib number on and getting into the starting gate again this morning. I wasn't sure how my stomach would hold up as it was a long stage and had some big climbs. The weather was cooler, I had 1 full day rest and finished my meds from the doctor so I figured it was as good of time to try, as ever.
I knew the stage as I ran it in 2013. It started out with a long climb up a dirt road which was great as it allowed us to just settle into a mix of walking and running. I noticed already within the first 10min that my body was almost 100% back to normal. Not so much my stomach as just the general "wellness" and "normality" within my muscles, breathing and overall strength. I was elated & so happy I could hardly stand it. For the rest of the stage I ran with a deep appreciation and gratitude for both a healthy body and opportunity to rejoin my partner. I noticed things around me. I smiled so much I think my cheeks were the most sore part of my body at the finish ;-) and I really just tried to soak in every step.
The first half of the stage was no Bologna but we had a super fun descent and amazing river crossings.
As we ran down from the last pass of the day I was reminded of how much I love this race and where my love first started in 2011.
Hapoynto rejoin my buddy on a stage where it all stared for me and make new memories with her.
We ran a solid stage and within the top 5 female teams. Despite being over dressed because we were so afraid of being cold, we retold stories from our trip to Vegas earlier in the year where we bought our bright purple tights and tossed our heads back to do our infamous deep running chuckle side by side that always brings a smile to our face and unites our already strong friendship.
